The work of Humberto Maturana / Alternative Ethical Postures

26th April: The work of Humberto Maturana

Day 1 will feature the work of Humberto Maturana, the Chilean biologist and the contribution that he has made to the field of family therapy thorough his constructivist position. This will be an opportunity for participants to refresh their relationship with Maturana’s work and consider its relevance in their own clinical practice.

27th April: Alternative ethical postures

Day 2 will look at the framework that Dr Tomm has developed of four contrasting ethical postures that clarify different platforms that support differing patterns of clinical decision-making by therapists. This framework will be presented and discussed along with some methods one could use to guide one’s own professional development to work more consistently from a preferred ethical stance.  Participants will be invited to reflect on their own patterns of intervening in their clinical work and will become more aware of alternative options that may be available to them.
